Finishing Burs are specifically designed for shaping and finishing all types of dental materials. Compared to diamond burs, carbide finishing burs provide a smoother and more aesthetically pleasing surface for most restorative materials. Carbide burs are recommended for trimming and finishing macrofilled and hybrid composites, while grinding and polishing diamonds are better suited for microfilled composites. Coarse grinding tools tend to leave striations, so fine and extra-fine diamonds are preferred for final finishing.
Twelve-Bladed Finishing Burs
Available in a variety of shapes—including Round, Flame, Cone, Inverted, Egg, Extra Long Taper, Taper, Bullet, Needle, and Composite Facial Trimming—these twelve-bladed burs deliver a smooth finish on composite, amalgam, enamel, dentin, orthodontic debonding, and other dental materials. Designated by the 7000 series numbers, they are ideal for controlled contouring and finishing.
Egg-Shaped Bur
This shape is particularly useful for contouring and finishing occlusal and lingual surfaces. SS White egg-shaped finishing burs are also effective for occlusal adjustments on both anterior and posterior teeth.
Needle-Shaped Bur
Needle-shaped burs are excellent for precise contouring and finishing of interproximal margins, occlusal margins, facial surfaces, and cavosurface margins.
Composite Facial Trimmers (CFT)
The SS White CFT burs are designed for subgingival contouring and finishing of restorative materials, including cavosurface margins and facial surfaces. Their straight design helps prevent concavity when finishing composites.
