1. Select the appropriate retractor size according to the patient's anatomy and surgical access requirements.
2. Prepare the operative area according to the standard clinical protocol.
3. Open the spring-action retractor carefully and position the working ends around the required cheek and lip tissues.
4. Release the instrument gradually so the spring mechanism holds the tissues in the desired retracted position.
5. Check that the cheek and lip are adequately retracted without excessive tissue pressure.
6. Adjust the position if additional surgical access or visibility is required.
7. Maintain the retractor in position during the procedure while periodically checking soft-tissue condition.
