Clean and sterilize the Tofflemire retainer before starting the restorative procedure.

Select a suitable Tofflemire matrix band and insert its ends into the open guide slots of the retainer's U-shaped head.

Turn the short knob clockwise to clamp the band firmly inside the sliding vise assembly.

Rotate the long knob to adjust the loop diameter so it matches the target tooth circumference.

Carefully position the matrix band loop over the prepared tooth, extending slightly past the gingival margin.

Turn the long knob clockwise to tighten the loop securely around the tooth until a snug seal is achieved.

Place wedges and perform the restorative condensation, carving, and initial setting steps according to protocol.

Loosen the short knob to unlock the band ends, carefully slide the retainer off, and remove the matrix band.
