Clean and sterilize the probe in an autoclave prior to clinical usage.
Position the patient comfortably and secure adequate operating light focused on the target quadrant.
Hold the instrument using a light modified pen grasp to maximize tactile sensitivity.
Gently glide the fine working tip along enamel surfaces, pits, fissures, and restoration margins.
Evaluate tactile resistance or catches that indicate enamel breakdown, sound margins, or tooth decay. Thoroughly clean, decontaminate, and sterilize the instrument following completion of the examination.
