1. Examine the target mesial surface and select the correct working end of the 11/12 curette.
2. Hold the instrument firmly using a modified pen grasp for maximum control and tactile feedback.
3. Establish a stable intraoral or extraoral fulcrum on adjacent tooth structures.
4. Insert the blade gently below the gingival margin into the periodontal pocket with the face flat against the tooth.
5. Adapt the lower shank parallel to the mesial root surface to ensure proper blade working angulation.
6. Apply moderate lateral pressure and execute short, controlled, overlapping pull strokes to remove calculus.
7. Smooth the root surface and rinse the working area thoroughly upon completing debridement.
