Subject the instrument to standard steam autoclaving following established clinical infection control guidelines. Position the patient comfortably and secure proper illumination of the oral cavity. Grip the retractor handle firmly and gently guide the working tip against the targeted tissue. Apply steady, non-traumatic traction to displace the cheek, lip, or mucoperiosteal flap away from the surgical zone.
