Its formulation ensures durability and reliable performance for a variety of restorative needs.

Strontium-Based Glass Ionomer:

All GC Gold Label Glass Ionomers contain strontium glass, which provides excellent radiopacity and snap-set characteristics, widely preferred by clinicians worldwide. Strontium also mimics calcium during the formation of strontium hydroxyapatite and strontium fluoroapatite, supporting internal remineralization within the tooth structure for enhanced long-term integrity.

Surface Strengthening Effect:

Studies show that strontium-based glass ionomers placed in a calcium-rich environment, such as saliva, allow calcium ions to diffuse into the material’s surface, producing a surface strengthening effect. Consequently, all GC Gold Label Glass Ionomers continue to strengthen over time when exposed to saliva, enhancing the longevity of restorations.

A Consistent, Predictable Seal:

Upon mixing, GC Gold Label Glass Ionomers develop a glossy surface, indicating the presence of sufficient free polyacrylic acid to initiate the ion exchange process. The subsequent movement of ions between dentin, enamel, and the glass ionomer creates an ion exchange zone that chemically fuses the materials. This results in a consistent, predictable, and durable marginal seal.

1. Powder and Liquid Dispensing

• Standard powder-to-liquid ratio: 3.4 g powder to 1 g liquid (1 level scoop powder : 1 drop liquid).
• For accurate powder dispensing, lightly tap the bottle; do not shake or invert.
• To dispense liquid, turn the bottle upside down, keep the nozzle away from the mixing pad, and gently press. Discard the first 1–2 drops when opening a new bottle.
• Close both powder and liquid bottles tightly immediately after use.

2. Mixing

• Dispense powder and liquid onto the mixing pad.
• Divide the powder into two equal portions. Mix the first portion with all the liquid for 10 seconds.
• Incorporate the remaining powder and mix thoroughly for 15–20 seconds.

3. Restorative Technique

• Prepare the tooth using standard techniques; extensive mechanical retention is not necessary. For pulp capping, apply calcium hydroxide.
• Apply GC Cavity Conditioner (10 s) or GC Dentin Conditioner (20 s) to the bonding surfaces using a cotton pellet or sponge.
• Rinse thoroughly and dry by blotting or gently using an air syringe. Avoid desiccation; surfaces should appear moist and glistening.
• Mix the required amount of GC Gold Label IX GP-EXTRA. Working time is 2 minutes at 23 °C (73.4 °F); higher temperatures shorten working time.
• Transfer the cement to the prepared cavity using a syringe or suitable instrument, avoiding air bubbles.
• Shape preliminary contour and cover with a matrix if needed.
• Once set, apply GC Fuji Varnish (blow dry) or GC Fuji COAT LC (light cure 10 s).

4. Finishing

• Begin final finishing under water spray 6 minutes after starting the mix, using standard techniques.
• Apply a final coat of G-COAT PLUS and light cure for 20 s, or alternatively use GC Fuji Varnish (blow dry) or GC Fuji COAT LC (light cure 10 s).
• Instruct the patient to avoid applying pressure on the restoration for 1 hour.
