A Strontium-Based Glass Ionomer
All GC Gold Label Glass Ionomers contain strontium glass, which provides excellent radiopacity and sharp set characteristics, making them a preferred choice for clinicians worldwide. Strontium also mimics calcium in forming strontium hydroxyapatite and strontium fluoroapatite, contributing to internal remineralization within the tooth structure.
Surface Strengthening Effect
Research indicates that when a strontium-based glass ionomer is placed in a calcium-containing environment, such as saliva, calcium ions diffuse into the glass ionomer surface, resulting in a strengthening effect. Over time, all GC Gold Label Glass Ionomers continue to strengthen in the presence of saliva, enhancing durability.
A Consistent, Predictable Seal
GC Gold Label Glass Ionomers develop a glossy surface immediately after mixing, indicating that sufficient free polyacrylic acid is present to initiate the ion exchange process. The movement of ions between dentin, enamel, and the glass ionomer forms an ion exchange zone, chemically fusing the materials together. This creates a consistent, predictable, and long-lasting seal.
