• Radiographic assessment:
• Review radiographs to evaluate the root canal’s width, length, and curvature.
• Access preparation:
• Create straight-line access to the canal orifice(s).
• Ensure proper shaping of internal axial walls for smooth entry.
• Initial canal exploration:
• Use a size 010 hand file with lubricant to explore the canal.
• Determine working length with a preoperative radiograph and/or apex locator.
• Irrigate the canal thoroughly.
• Glide path preparation:
• Passively advance the WaveOne® Gold Glider file with gentle inward pressure to full working length.
• Irrigate, recapitulate, and irrigate again.
• Expand the glide path to at least 0.15 mm using a manual or mechanical glide path file.
• Confirm working length, establish patency, and verify the glide path.
• Shaping with WaveOne® Gold files:
• Always start with the PRIMARY file (025/07, red) in the presence of sodium hypochlorite.
• Allow the PRIMARY file to passively advance, removing and cleaning it every 2–3 mm.
• Irrigate and recapitulate with a size 010 hand file after each pass.
• Pre-enlarge the coronal two-thirds of the canal using gentle inward pressure and a brushing motion on the outstroke.
• Handling restrictive canals:
• Use a size 010 hand file to negotiate tight areas to the terminus until loose at length.
• If the PRIMARY file does not progress, switch to the SMALL file (020/07, yellow) in one or more passes to working length, then return to the PRIMARY file to optimize the shape.
• Final shaping and disinfection:
• Use the PRIMARY file to full working length in one or more passes, removing it to avoid over-enlarging the foramen.
• Inspect apical flutes after shaping.
• Once shaping is complete and confirmed, proceed with 3-D disinfection protocols.
• General procedural tips:
• Irrigate abundantly and frequently after removing any WaveOne® Gold files.
• If a file does not progress, remove, clean, inspect the cutting flutes, irrigate, and recapitulate with a size 010 file.
• Use a gentle inward pecking motion with short amplitude strokes to advance files along the glide path.
• Always establish straight-line coronal and radicular access before shaping.
