These files feature an off-centered rectangular cross-section, which produces a distinctive “swaggering” motion as they move through the canal. This innovative design not only enhances file flexibility but also creates more space for debris removal, improving cleaning efficiency and shaping performance.

Constructed from M-Wire® Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) alloy, the ProTaper Next files deliver greater flexibility and resistance to cyclic fatigue without compromising cutting efficiency. This is achieved through a proprietary thermal treatment process developed by Dentsply Sirona.

Establish straight-line access to the canal orifice.

Explore the canal using small-sized hand files to:

• Determine the working length.
• Verify canal patency.
• Confirm a smooth, reproducible glide path.

Irrigate thoroughly throughout the procedure.

If needed, expand the glide path using small-sized hand files or dedicated mechanical glide path files.

In the presence of NaOCl (sodium hypochlorite), use the ProTaper Next® X1 (17/04) file:

• Brush and follow along the established glide path.
• Use one or more gentle passes, alternating with small-sized hand files if required, until the working length is reached.

Proceed with the ProTaper Next® X2 (25/06) file:

• Follow the same technique as with the X1 file.
• Continue until the working length is passively achieved.

Inspect the apical flutes of the ProTaper Next X2 file:

• If the flutes are loaded with dentin, the canal shaping is complete.
• Fit the corresponding gutta-percha master cone or size verifier to confirm shape accuracy.
• The canal is now ready for disinfection.

Alternatively, gauge the apical foramen with a size 25 hand file:

• If the file fits snugly at working length, the canal is properly shaped and ready for disinfection.
