Abgel Sponge USP is a sterile absorbable gelatin hemostat manufactured from highly purified neutral gelatin. It is designed to help control localized bleeding where conventional measures may be difficult or impractical, including dental extraction sockets and other oral-surgical sites.

The porous gelatin matrix absorbs approximately 40–50 times its own weight in blood and provides a physical matrix that supports clot formation at the application site. The sponge is soft, pliable and can be trimmed to suit the required surgical area.

1. Open the sterile pack using aseptic technique.

2. Trim the sponge to the size required for the bleeding site if necessary.

3. Place the sponge directly on or into the bleeding area using sterile instruments.

4. Apply gentle, firm pressure until the sponge adheres and hemostasis is achieved.

5. Leave in place when clinically appropriate; the material is absorbable.

6. Follow the manufacturer’s enclosed instructions and the treating clinician’s judgement.
