3M™ ESPE™ Adper™ Single Bond 2 Adhesive is a highly advanced dental bonding agent designed for a wide range of clinical applications. Building on the success of the original Adper Single Bond, this adhesive features a total-etch, visible-light activated formula enriched with 10% by weight of 5 nm diameter silica filler. It is primarily intended for direct light-cured restorative procedures and the management of cervical sensitivity. Additionally, it can be used for bonding laboratory-fabricated composite or porcelain veneers when paired with RelyX™ Veneer Cement, as well as for securing amalgam and other indirect restorations in combination with RelyX™ ARC Adhesive Resin Cement.

Adper Single Bond 2 Adhesive is available in two convenient formats: a translucent vial that allows visual inspection of the adhesive level, and a hygienic unit-dose delivery system that simplifies application. Its formulation includes BisGMA, HEMA, dimethacrylates, ethanol, water, a specialized photoinitiator system, and a polyalkenoic acid copolymer that enhances moisture resistance. A key feature is its nanotechnology, with 5 nm silica particles that remain stably suspended, eliminating the need for frequent shaking and outperforming adhesives with larger fillers that may settle over time.

The adhesive achieves strong bonding through a micromechanical process, which involves demineralizing enamel and dentin surfaces with phosphoric acid. Its indications include all direct light-cured bonding procedures, indirect bonding with 3M™ ESPE™ RelyX™ ARC Adhesive Resin Cement, root surface desensitization, porcelain and composite repair, and bonding veneers in combination with RelyX™ Veneer Cement from 3M ESPE.

• Isolation: Use a rubber dam as the preferred method of isolation.
• Cavity Preparation: Prepare the cavity with minimal tooth reduction and bevel cavosurface enamel margins.
• Etching:
• Apply Scotchbond Etchant to enamel and dentin.
• Wait 15 seconds, then rinse for 10 seconds.
• Blot excess water with a cotton pellet or mini-sponge; the surface should appear glistening without pooling.
• Adhesive Application:
• Immediately after blotting, apply 2–3 consecutive coats of adhesive to etched enamel and dentin for 15 seconds using a fully saturated applicator with gentle agitation.
• Gently air-thin for 5 seconds to evaporate solvents.
• Light cure for 10 seconds.
• Restorative Placement, Curing, and Finishing: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper placement, curing, and finishing of restorative materials.
